As the end 2023 NFL regular season draws nearer, so too does the end of the MVP race.
There are several candidates who could win the award, but Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson showed in Week 17 why he should be the favorite.
Jackson completed 85.7 percent of his passes for 321 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions in a blowout win over the Miami Dolphins.
That performance, coupled with Jackson’s overall season stats, makes him the “runaway” favorite to win MVP, according to Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless.
“I don’t know if he’ll be unanimous,” he said, “but I think it’ll be close to unanimous just because of the last three weeks.”

Jackson has powered the Ravens to an NFL-best 13-3 record and is on a collision course for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
The Ravens are also riding a six-game winning streak that includes consecutive wins against the Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers over the past two weeks.
During that stretch, Jackson completed 62.53 percent of his passes for 1,501 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions as well as 340 rushing yards.
His season-long stats also rank 14th in passing yards, 11th in passing touchdowns, and seventh in completion percentage.
But more than stats, Jackson and the Ravens just look like the best team in the NFL behind the second-highest scoring offense and the best-scoring defense.
If Jackson were to win the MVP, it would be his second award in his six seasons after he won in 2019.
And while Jackson will have competition from others like San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey, he has proven himself to be the best player on the best team – which has to count for something.
