After acquiring superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers during the NFL offseason, the New York Jets were thought to be a potential Super Bowl title contender in the AFC, with the four-time NFL MVP expected to be the missing piece to the championship puzzle.
With the Jets still having several issues on the football field after signing Rodgers, the veteran newcomer was willing to take a pay cut to bring in more talent, which resulted in the Jets signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, who had been released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier in the offseason.
The move was thought to be a potential game-changer for the Jets offense, with the team having a superstar quarterback, a perennial Pro Bowler at running back, and a promising young talent at wide receiver in Garrett Wilson.
Unfortunately, Cook, much like the Jets’ season in general, turned out to be another move that failed to live up to expectations, as he was a nonfactor for New York all year long.
With the Jets officially out of playoff contention, Cook has had enough of struggling in New York and asked to be released with the desire to sign with a title contender, which makes this offseason signing one of the worst of the offseason, according to Connor Hughes of SNY via Jets Videos.
“In the grand scheme of things, while not necessarily flawed at the time, or flawed thinking, it’s going to be viewed as one of the worst signings of this offseason,” Hughes said.

With Cook being such a disappointment during his short time with the Jets, it remains to be seen whether a title-contending team is willing to bring him in heading into the NFL playoffs.
Even if he gets a shot with a title contender, he’ll likely play a limited role, as his career now appears to be in a decline.
