After a failed stint with the New York Jets and with the team no longer in playoff contention in the AFC, four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook has asked the team to release him so he can sign with a title contender ahead of the NFL playoffs.
With Cook having a fairly sizable contract, it’s expected that he’ll go through waivers unclaimed, which will make him a free agent and able to sign with any team that he wants with the playoffs right around the corner.
Unfortunately for Cook, his short time with the Jets didn’t exactly impress anyone, so it might not be all that easy for him to jump to a new team like he hopes to do after Week 18.
As of right now, there’s no clear-cut favorite for Cook’s services if he does indeed go through waivers unclaimed and become a free agent, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network does think there may be two title-contending teams that might take a shot on him.
“And assuming he clears waivers, I think we all assume, there are some teams who did show interest in him. Teams like the [Baltimore] Ravens, teams like the [Miami] Dolphins,” said Rapoport on potentially interested teams in Cook. “Those were some of the teams that were interested in him previously.”

The Miami Dolphins were thought to initially be the favorite to sign Cook once he was released by the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2023 NFL regular season, but the two sides couldn’t see eye-to-eye on a deal.
Fortunately for Miami, it didn’t really matter anyway, with Raheem Mostert having a breakout season, but the Baltimore Ravens could’ve used him even though they locked up the top spot in the AFC.
It’ll be interesting to see if one of these AFC heavyweights shows interest and if Cook can make an impact come playoff time.
