The Dallas Cowboys did what winning teams have done for years.
They hired one of the most experienced guys for their coaching staff, a guy with plenty of head coaching experience to focus on just one side of the field.
Dan Quinn has helped turn around one of the worst defenses in the league in almost no time.
That’s why Ed Werder of ESPN talked about how lucky Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy, and the Cowboys have been to have Quinn there for so long despite having some interest in HC vacancies.
“Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy seem fortunate they’ve had Dan Quinn for three seasons when he had opportunities to leave for HC jobs each of past two offseasons. He has been transformative on his side of the ball,” Werder said.

Quinn’s name has been mentioned as a potential HC multiple times over the past couple of years, and it seems like his time in Dallas might be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
He took over a subpar defensive unit and turned them into a lockdown unit, especially at home, and their ability to create turnovers has ranked among the best in the league.
Of course, it’s not a coincidence that this defensive surge has also come with Micah Parsons entering the league, and he has the potential to be the best defensive player in the league once he reaches his prime, but coach Quinn still deserves plenty of credit for the work he’s put into this team.
Now, it’ll be all about going the distance and proving that they can rise to the occasion when it matters the most, as this Cowboys team has struggled away from home and against Super Bowl contenders.
