This has been a lost season for the Cincinnati Bengals due to Joe Burrow’s injury problems, and with an 8-8 record, they will not take part in this season’s playoffs.
They entered the year with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, and some were fairly confident they would end up making the trip to the Las Vegas area this February to play for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Not only is this a lost season for the Bengals, but they may be weakened next season, as they have some big contract decisions to make.
Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins give them one of the NFL’s best wide receiver duos, but both are due for a contract extension, and the team may not be able to afford both of them.
Chase talked about wanting to get his extension done this offseason, and he said that the Bengals also being able to get an extension done for Higgins will depend on how much money he will receive, per Mike Petraglia.
“That’s a good question. Who knows? It depends on how much I’m taking,” Chase said.

Despite Burrow being limited to 10 games and playing poorly in September due to a calf strain, Chase has managed to put up 1,197 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through 15 games.
Higgins, on the other hand, has had something of a down year with 656 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games, as he has dealt with injury woes of his own.
While he will be a free agent at the conclusion of this season, Chase has one year remaining on his rookie contract, which may give Cincinnati a bit of wiggle room as far as finding a way to keep both of them.
