Former Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals defense end J.J. Watt knows how to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award – he did it three times himself during his 12-year career after he took home the award in 2012, 2014, and 2015 with more than 20 sacks in two of those three seasons.
So with the 2023 NFL DPOY award race coming down to the wire, Watt made his pick for who believes should take it home: his young brother, Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
1st Player in NFL History to lead the league in Sacks 3 times.
T.J. Watt.
DOMINANT.

Watt just finished up his 2023 season with the Steelers after a two-sack performance against the Baltimore Ravens.
He currently has the most sacks in the NFL this season with 19, though that could quickly change after the rest of the Week 18 games finish up Sunday.
Regardless, though, Watt is among the top candidates for the award along with Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons and Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett.
If Watt won, it would be his second DPOY award since 2021.
He’s also been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past six seasons.
Watt is a huge reason why the Steelers’ defense has been so good for so long, too, and why Pittsburgh still has a chance to make the 2023 postseason depending on what happens in Week 18.
However, he suffered a knee injury against the Ravens and might not be available for the playoffs if the Steelers make it.
Even still, Watt’s performance this season is certainly good enough to win the award – but it’s now up to the voters to decide if his season is better than his opponents.
