The future of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray appears to be resolved even before the 2023 season is over.
After Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon recently said that Murray is his franchise quarterback, the organization has reportedly backed up that statement, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“They’re moving forward with Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback,” Rapoport said Sunday.

This is a huge development considering Murray’s situation was a huge question mark heading into the season.
He was still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in 2022, and it was unclear how the new coaching staff and front office felt about Murray before they saw him play in their system.
Murray returned from his injury in Week 10 and although he didn’t go wild, he did play well and won some big games for the Cardinals at the end of the season.
The decision to keep Murray means the Cardinals can use their early first-round pick to build around him – either on the offensive line or with a nice wide receiver.
Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. would be the biggest get for Arizona if they can secure a top-three pick, as he would immediately become Murray’s No. 1 pass-catcher in 2024.
The Cardinals also have the Houston Texans’ first-round pick from a draft day trade, although that pick will come later in the round after Houston made the playoffs this year.
Arizona has one game left on its slate before it sets its sights on the 2024 offseason, where it appears to have made its decision on at least one crucial question for next year.
