The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to have one goal this offseason.
That is to go all-in on building the best roster possible.
LA has already made some major moves in free agency.
It all started when they signed Shohei Ohtani to a 10-year, $700 million deal.
It was a contract that most teams could not fathom giving one player.
But, the Dodgers know how valuable Ohtani is.
That was the first of many impact moves.
The Dodgers also traded for Tyler Glasnow and signed him to a long-term deal.
Not to mention getting stronger in the starting rotation by signing Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The last of their moves was signing outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to a one-year deal.
According to Fabian Ardaya, it is a lucrative one-year deal with plenty of incentives.
Incentives in Teoscar Hernández’s Dodgers deal, per source:
– $1 million if he wins Silver Slugger
– $500k if he finishes 11th-15th in MVP voting
– $2 million if he finishes 6th-10th in MVP voting
– $3 million if he finishes 1st-5th in MVP voting— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) January 8, 2024
All of his incentives are award-based, such as winning the Silver Slugger and being in MVP consideration.
Last season, Hernandez had a great season for the Mariners.
He batted .258 with 26 home runs and 93 RBI.
Also, he was very reliable by only missing two games.
The Dodgers already had one of the best lineups in baseball before signing Hernandez.
He just makes them that much better.
Having Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Ohtani batting ahead of Hernandez should set him up for a career year.
The Dodgers have already spent over $1 billion in free agency, while no other team has spent over $200 million.
