The 2023 NFL season was brutal when it came to quarterback injuries, and the Minnesota Vikings weren’t spared.
After Aaron Rodgers saw his season cut short due to a torn Achilles, the Vikings lost Kirk Cousins midway through the year because of the same injury.
Cousins was having another strong season in Minnesota before tearing his Achilles and his injury ruined the team’s chances of making the playoffs.
The timing of Cousins’ injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Given his age and the nature of his injury, the Vikings have a tough decision ahead of them when it comes to Cousins.
However, Minnesota general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah may have tipped his hand in regards to Cousins’ future with the team via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.
“Now, ultimately it always comes down to, can you find an agreement that works for all sides and all those things. But as a player, it’s certainly my intention to have him back here,” Adofo-Mensah said.

There’s no doubt that Cousins is the best quarterback set to hit the free agent market, and the two sides could agree on a team-friendly deal for one year to give themselves some flexibility.
Re-signing Cousins to a short-term deal allows the Vikings to find his replacement down the road, while the quarterback would get a chance to rehab his value and hit free agency again.
It remains to be seen whether or not Minnesota brings back Cousins, but the early signs point to a reunion.
