For the first time in 24 years, Bill Belichick won’t be in charge of the New England Patriots.
This wasn’t an easy breakup, but it shouldn’t be a bad one for either party.
At least, that’s how NFL legend Michael Irvin feels about that.
Talking about it on “Undisputed,” Irvin explained that it seemed like it was for the best, as it had been a great tenure, but it was long overdue.
“It had run its course; all things run their course,” Irvin said.

Nonetheless, Irvin doesn’t want people to think Belichick is done in the league, reminding everybody that he’s one of the greatest defensive-minded coaches ever and that he managed to hold several teams to under 10 points just this season.
Irvin stated that he believes Belichick should go to a team with an established quarterback so he can focus on what he does best, which is orchestrating championship-caliber defenses, and he might as well be right.
Belichick set the standard for success not only in the National Football League but also in all major sports.
Then again, times change, and his ways might be a little outdated.
He needs to embrace the idea of delegating and having a specialized coaching staff; he cannot make all the decisions.
But given his track record of success and how much respect he’s earned in the league, it shouldn’t take long before a team makes him an offer he cannot reject, especially considering he’s just 14 wins behind Don Shula for the record of the most wins by a head coach in the history of the league.
