Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick might be the hottest name on the head coaching market right now.
He’s arguably the greatest head coach of all time and is now free to join any new team after the Patriots let him go this week.
One of the wildest theoretical landing spots for Belichick would be a team that still has a head coach and is in the playoffs: the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fox Sports’ Craig Carton hypothesized Thursday that the Eagles should fire current head coach Nick Sirianni if Philadelphia loses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard round this weekend and hire Belichick to replace him.
“If Philadelphia loses to Tampa … No. 1: get rid of Sirianni, he ain’t the guy,” Carton said. “No. 2: Go get Bill Belichick.”

This is an absurdly hot take but not one that doesn’t make at least a little bit of sense.
The Eagles have all the pieces of a Super Bowl contender – as evidenced by their 10-1 start to open the season and their Super Bowl appearance a year ago – but haven’t been able to find themselves over the past two months after bad losses have continued to pile up.
Enter Belichick, who could, in theory, turn around the team without much re-organization.
The offense is sound with Jalen Hurts at quarterback and two good receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
The issues are on defense, which is Belichick’s bread and butter.
This is an extremely out-of-the-box idea, though, especially considering the Eagles are still playing football as of this writing.
But that could change if they get blown out on the road in the wild card round.
