Sunday’s playoff matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions will be historic for multiple reasons.
First, it will be the first time since the 1993 season that the Lions are hosting a postseason game inside their home stadium.
Second, it will be a contest that has each team’s starting quarterback (Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford) facing the franchise that drafted them into the NFL.
According to Pro Football Reference on Twitter, whichever quarterback leads their team to a win on Sunday will end up making league history.
They will become the first quarterback to ever win a playoff game against a team for which they previously started a playoff game.

Detroit is in the middle of a magical season in which they finished their 2023 regular-season schedule with a 12-5 record and their first division title since 1993.
Expectations are high for the Lions after their performance in the regular season, so anything short of a win on Sunday will be a massive disappointment.
As for the Rams, a significant amount of people thought they had a better shot at finishing as the worst team in the NFL than making the playoffs in the 2023 campaign.
But Los Angeles has already proved a lot of their doubters wrong this season by finishing with a 10-7 record and sneaking into the playoffs.
It will be interesting to see how each team’s starting quarterback reacts to facing their old squad.
Matthew Stafford spent 12 years in Detroit before parting with the team in the 2021 offseason and going on to lead the Rams to a Super Bowl win during his first season with the franchise.
Jared Goff landed with the Lions in that Stafford trade, and he’ll be looking to get revenge on Sunday against a Los Angeles team that essentially gave up on him.
