Bill Belichick’s next head coaching stop will be the biggest news item to watch all offseason after he and the New England Patriots parted ways after 24 seasons together.
There are certainly many teams that could or should be interested in what Belichick brings to the table, but CBS Sports’ NFL insider Jonathan Jones believes that the Atlanta Falcons are the best bet to land Belichick because of the infrastructure in and around the team.
“I’m keeping a close eye on the Atlanta Falcons,” Jones said. “A team with great players who needs a quarterback. A team that needs a coach who has an attention to detail. An 81-year-old owner who desperately wants his first Lombardi after two decades of ownership.”
Belichick to the Falcons?

Jones added that Belichick would bring some of his Patriots connections to a Falcons team that just missed out on the playoffs because of close losses to end the season.
The biggest issue, though, is who will play quarterback in Atlanta after neither Desmond Ridder nor Taylor Heinicke looked great under center.
The Falcons could look to move up in the draft to select a rookie or try and pry a veteran away in free agency or via trade.
Belichick, then, would bring his steadfast approach to football with him and, ideally, install a system that doesn’t allow for a team to blow leads or lose to worse opponents.
It would be quite the change for Belichick, though, after so much time and success in New England.
But maybe that’s exactly what the Falcons need after years of mediocrity.
