The New Orleans Saints suffered their first loss of the 2023 NFL season in Week 3 when they squandered a 17-point lead against the Green Bay Packers.
The Saints were in complete control against the Packers heading into the fourth quarter, but they fell apart as Jordan Love led the improbable comeback at Lambeau Field.
New Orleans did see Derek Carr exit the game due to a shoulder injury and his absence was clearly a hindrance as Jameis Winston was unable to get the team into scoring position and put Green Bay away.
With a pivotal Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming up, Carr was initially expected to miss the game.
Carr’s generally been a sturdy player during his career, though he has previously missed games because of injury and New Orleans could opt to rest him so he doesn’t risk re-injury.
However, it looks like the quarterback could indeed suit up as he reportedly has looked good throwing in practice via Nick Underhill of NOF.
Looks like Derek Carr has a very real shot at starting. Looked sharp throwing passes today. Led the first-team offense. Had good velocity. Accurate. Threw downfield during routes on air. Sharp in red zone. Saw nothing that appeared limiting.

If Carr is indeed able to go, that would be a huge boost to the Saints’ offense as he’s looked great pushing the ball downfield.
Carr’s been able to build good rapport with Chris Olave and Michael Thomas and he’ll have even more help this Sunday as Alvin Kamara will be available after serving his three-game suspension.
Although Carr could be healthy enough to go, there’s still a chance that the Saints opt to roll with Winston who would likely relish the chance to stick it to his old team.
