The offseason is the perfect time to rank players, teams, duos, trios, pitchers, ballparks… anything you like.
The folks at MLB Network, specifically Joel Sherman, have been ranking the best “Big 3’s” in MLB: trios of players that stand out on their own teams and among the best in the league.
The exercise is easy: think of the best three players on your team and see how they fare against other trios around the league.
According to Sherman, the Los Angeles Dodgers take the crown, and to be fair, there shouldn’t even be much debate: Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts are just too good for any other trio.

There are four MVP awards in that trio: two by Ohtani, and one each by Betts and Freeman.
All three are in the peak of their careers and still performing at a very high level.
There are several talented trios around baseball, but no one is beating the Dodgers in that regard.
In second place, we have the Atlanta Braves and Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, and Austin Riley.
Acuna is perhaps MLB’s most dynamic position player, capable of hitting 40+ home runs and stealing 70+ bases.
Olson is capable of hitting more than 50 home runs any given season, and Riley is one of the best all-around third basemen in MLB.
The reigning World Series champs, the Texas Rangers, appear third on the list thanks to Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia, and Marcus Semien.
The Houston Astros (Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez) and the New York Yankees (Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Anthony Rizzo) complete the top five.
