New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has developed into one of the very best players in MLB.
His combination of above-average offense, power, speed, and excellent defense make him an accomplished star.
Back when he was with the Cleveland Guardians, he had his first major league hit against the Detroit Tigers.
Miguel Cabrera, who retired after the 2023 season following a brilliant, productive career, was there at first base when it happened.
Lindor told the story and how, and why, he thinks Cabrera is a legend and an example to all his peers, via MLBPA on Twitter.
“From generation to generation. Francisco Lindor will never forget his first big league hit and Miguel Cabrera’s role in it,” the MLBPA tweeted with a video of Lindor re-living the moment.

Lindor said that, on his first hit, he tripped around first base.
Cabrera was nowhere near him when it happened, yet Lindor tried to blame him for a brief moment.
Perhaps any other player would have lost it, but not Cabrera.
Not for that, at least.
He stayed calm.
“To see his reaction, telling me ‘relax, have fun’ and not get mad at me for blaming him… Miguel Cabrera is one of the most respected players in the game,” Lindor said.
The shortstop also said that Cabrera’s name will never die in this sport.
Cabrera’s contributions to the game go well beyond what he did on the field.
Yes, he is a World Series winner, a two-time MVP, a Triple Crown winner, and also won multiple batting crowns.
But his role as an ambassador of the game, a public figure, and a hero for Venezuelans and Latinos in general is what makes him big.
