Every year, there seems to be speculation as to whether longtime Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will officially call it a career or move on from the storied NFL franchise.
This season is no different, as there was plenty of speculation about the veteran head coach’s future with the team, especially when it looked like the 2023 campaign was a lost cause.
Fortunately for Pittsburgh, Tomlin was able to help lead them into the NFL playoffs once again, but they came up short against an offensive juggernaut in the form of Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills at a snow-covered Highmark Stadium.
Following the playoff loss to the Bills, Tomlin was asked about his future and abruptly walked away from the podium because he was clearly sick of the question, and on Tuesday, there was more clarity as to why he did that.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Tomlin fully intends to continue coaching the Steelers next season, and will be entering the final year of his contract with the team.
Garafolo added that Tomlin is expected to address the media at some point later this week.
In a team meeting today, Mike Tomlin told #Steelers players the speculation about him stepping away is unfounded and he plans on coaching the team in 2024, sources say.

Although Tomlin will be returning as head coach of this team moving forward, it remains uncertain what the long-term future holds for him in Pittsburgh, as he is still a hot commodity around the league, and the Steelers still have some major issues on the offensive side of the football.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Tomlin gets traded elsewhere in the near future, especially if a team comes calling with an intriguing trade proposal.
However, it would almost certainly have to come with a contract extension attached for the veteran head coach and be a desirable location.
