The Dallas Cowboys made all the NFL headlines recently, but not for the best reasons.
Just when everybody thought they were going to move on from Mike McCarthy after another epic collapse in the playoffs — perhaps the worst in franchise history — team owner Jerry Jones announced that the coach would return for the upcoming campaign.
Some had already questioned McCarthy’s job even before the start of the season.
That’s why the former Super Bowl champion coach wanted to appease the masses by letting everyone know that he’s fully confident in the direction the team is heading and their ability to compete at the highest level (via Ian Rapoport).
“I am confident in the direction and I like where we are moving forward,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy’s postseason woes date back to his days at Lambeau Field, and the Cowboys haven’t made it to the Super Bowl in almost three decades.
Also, the table seemed set for Jerry Jones to find a significant improvement in the coaching market, as Bill Belichick, Jim Harbaugh, and even Mike Vrabel were available right now.
The Cowboys have a Super Bowl-caliber roster for the most part.
Dak Prescott proved again that he’s not made for the big moment, and that’s another issue they’ll have to address in the offseason.
