The best eight teams – or at least the ones who can win in critical moments – are left in the NFL playoffs with spots in the AFC and NFC conference championships on the line.
As such, some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL remain in contention to fight for a Super Bowl, starting with the divisional round this weekend.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky ranked the top-five quarterbacks left in the field, with one surprising pick and two shocking exclusions:
- Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson
- Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen
- Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield
- Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love

The top three make sense, as Jackson is the MVP favorite while Allen and Mahomes have been among the best quarterbacks in the NFL for the past three years.
Allen and Mahomes will face off this weekend in the divisional round, while Jackson will take on the Houston Texans and quarterback C.J. Stroud, who wasn’t included on the list.
The inclusion of Mayfield is the big head-scatcher over, say Stroud or San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
Mayfield has played well of late but just beat a bad Philadelphia Eagles defense and only mustered nine points against the lackluster Carolina Panthers in Week 18.
Stroud, meanwhile, just dismantled the stout Cleveland Browns defense in the wild card and Purdy was an MVP candidate for most of the season.
Love makes sense as the fifth-best quarterback, though, after he took down the Dallas Cowboys this past week behind a strong offensive performance.
