The Toronto Blue Jays announced the acquisition of Cuban fireballer Yariel Rodriguez.
Prior to that, they had retained free agent center fielder Kevin Kiermaier and brought in utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
That has been the extent of their offseason, although it’s fair to say they were one of the finalists for Shohei Ohtani and making it that far requires work, time, and dedication.
But don’t feel too bad for Toronto: there is still time to bring in an impact player, and there are still plenty of options available.
In fact, the organization is keen on bringing in an impact hitter to fortify their lineup.
“The Blue Jays continue to talk with free agent hitters. There’s a good chance they’ll add one before camp opens in Dunedin next month. I’m told they maintain a slight preference for a LH bat, but they’re more focused on overall offensive value than handedness,” MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted.

Right now, the Blue Jays’ offense is good, with Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, Danny Jansen, Davis Schneider, and Daulton Varsho as the best hitters.
It’s still not a top unit, though, and a free agent or two can change that.
For example, if Toronto adds Cody Bellinger’s .881 OPS and 26 home runs from last year, it could enter a new tier.
Bellinger fits the mold perfectly: a talented, left-handed hitter.
He is very, very expensive, though.
Another option could be JD Martinez: a bit older, but powerful, experienced, and cheaper.
In any case, Toronto should make a move soon to improve their lineup.
Stay tuned.
