During their win over the Minnesota Vikings last week, the Los Angeles Chargers unfortunately lost talented wide receiver Mike Williams to a season-ending knee injury.
Keenan Allen is still the top guy on the Chargers’ receiver depth chart, but the team will need someone to step up to the plate to help replace the production lost from Williams being out.
After selecting him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft earlier this year, Los Angeles is hoping that rookie Quentin Johnston is someone who can help replace Williams this season.
On Friday, Johnston told NFL.com how he’s looking forward to his first opportunity to be more involved in the offense with Williams now out.
“I’m very excited. I try not to get too happy and just kind of stay focused. But I’m very excited for sure.”

Following a stellar season at TCU in 2022 in which he caught 60 passes for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns, Los Angeles felt Johnston was worthy of their top selection in the 2023 draft.
So far, he’s struggled to make much of an impact for the Chargers, as he’s only been able to accumulate five catches for 26 yards in the team’s three games this season.
With Williams now done for the year, however, Johnston will now get to show what he can do with more opportunities in the offense.
One thing the rookie won’t have to worry about is whether or not his quarterback can get the ball in his hands, as Los Angeles’ Justin Herbert is one of the best young signal-callers in the entire NFL.
Against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, will Chargers fans get to witness the beginning of a beautiful new connection between Herbert and Johnston?
