In a pivotal NFC South matchup, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to dominate the New Orleans Saints and move to 3-1 during the 2023 NFL season.
The Buccaneers were coming off a tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, but they bounced back in a huge way as their defense was able to bottle up Derek Carr and the Saints’ offense.
Carr was surprisingly active after dealing with an AC joint sprain throughout the week, but he was clearly hampered as he failed to take many shots downfield.
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield continued his strong start to the year as he was able to carve up New Orleans’ defense to the tune of 246 yards and three touchdowns.
Mayfield did have one interception, but overall he was great moving the football and getting his receivers involved.
During the offseason, there was a lot of doubt about Mayfield being the starter but people like Skip Bayless seem to be having the last laugh via his Twitter account.
“I kept receipts on everyone who told me Baker Mayfield was a bust,” Bayless tweeted.

For several years, Mayfield was labeled a bust after disappointing stints with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.
Mayfield was able to rehab his value during his short time with the Los Angeles Rams last season and looks much more comfortable with the Buccaneers.
It’s hard to say whether or not the former number-one overall pick is the long-term solution at quarterback for Tampa Bay, but for right now he’s doing enough to keep the team ahead in the standings and in position to make the playoffs.
