The Washington Commanders didn’t hesitate to pull the plug and put an end to Ron Rivera’s tenure in charge of the team.
It’s hard to say this was surprising at all, as he spent most of the time in Maryland on the hot seat, yet the team barely improved over the years.
Rivera failed to instill his defensive toughness in the team, and they couldn’t keep up with the rest of the NFC East Division.
Nonetheless, he does have plenty of pedigree and is an accomplished coach in this league, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him landing a new job somewhere else, albeit in a different capacity.
With that in mind, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that he’s going to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant defensive coordinator job.

Fowler adds that the last time Rivera was a DC, back in 2010, his Los Angeles Chargers led the league in total defense.
Rivera was considered one of the best defensive minds in the game, and his Carolina Panthers often dominated in that regard.
The Eagles’ defense had a tough time getting past Jonathan Gannon’s departure.
HC Nick Sirianni replaced DC Sean Desai midseason to give Matt Patricia defensive play-calling duties, but things only got worse.
Unsurprisingly, the Eagles decided not to bring Patricia back after his contract ran out, thus leaving a big vacancy.
The Eagles have the personnel to be stellar defensively, so they must make sure to bring in the right guy for the position.
