The New York Mets need help all over their roster.
That is usually the case with a team that won 75 games the year before and finished fourth in the NL East.
But, the Mets are a team that is expected to compete for a World Series year in and year out.
To do that in 2024, they need to add some impact players.
So far this offseason, the Mets have made a few interesting signings, but nothing that is going to move the needle.
The additions of Luis Severino, Harrison Bader, and Sean Manaea are intriguing.
But, they will not put the Mets over the top.
One spot the Mets have yet to address is the bullpen.
Yet, it appears they are looking into former All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman.
According to Andy Martino via SNY Mets, the Mets have expressed interest in Chapman.

On their strategy in the bullpen market: “Essentially, the Mets have spoken to the representatives to just about every available reliever, and still have money to spend in that area, if they see a fit.”… pic.twitter.com/Eyjh3S5YXq

The Mets are a team that usually spends a lot of money in free agency.
They still have a chance to do that with some big names available.
Next season, the Mets will be getting back elite closer Edwin Diaz.
He missed all of last season recovering from a torn ACL.
But, when healthy he is one of the best closers in baseball.
Anyone else the Mets add to their bullpen will be in a setup or middle-relief role.
Like most seasons, the Mets’ success will depend on their ability to stay healthy.
But, it looks like they are hoping to make some moves this offseason that can get them back into contention.
