Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was the talk of the NFL after he jumped from the college to the professional ranks in 2019.
At one point, Kingsbury’s Cardinals were riding high with Kyler Murray under center and sat second in the NFC West.
But a sharp drop in production in 2022 left Kingsbury without a job in 2023 where he took a year off from coaching in the NFL this past season.
Now, though, he reportedly is looking to get back into the NFL coaching circles and connected with the Pittsburgh Steelers for their open offensive coordinator position, according to NBC Sports’ Peter King (via 93.7 The Fan).

This would be an intriguing hire for two reasons: The Steelers need a coach who can come in and help develop quarterback Kenny Pickett and because it sounds as if the Steelers will focus on the running game rather than the passing game.
Kingsbury has a lot of experience with quarterbacks during his time in college as the head coach of Texas Tech from 2013 to 2018.
He coached NFL quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Davis Webb before he went to the Cardinals to work with Murray.
Kingsbury may not be a quarterback whisperer that could help turn Pickett into a franchise player, but his experience in offensive coaching make him a better OC than another head coaching candidate after he flamed out in Arizona.
The Steelers have a decent amount of skill position players as well and were a playoff team in 2023, so a quick turnaround in 2024 with a good coordinator running the offense isn’t unthinkable.
