New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is only heading into his third NFL season, but he’s already established himself as one of the best players at his position.
And after the Jets’ second consecutive bad season since the team drafted Gardner, it makes sense that he’d want the team to spend lavishly in free agency to shore up positions of need in 2024 – one that will surely include a healthy Aaron Rodgers.
Gardner named his top two choices for the Jets to sign this offseason: wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Tee Higgins.

Signing one of those players is certainly on the table for New York considering the team has no pass-catching depth behind Garrett Wilson, but snagging both would be nearly impossible because of the cost and opportunities they would demand on the team.
Both are coming off down seasons but established themselves as top-tier talent at wide receiver.
Ridley is a bit older at 29, but Higgins just turned 25 and would be a huge complement for Wilson.
But the Jets likely won’t have enough salary cap space to sign both receivers without neglecting other areas of need on the roster – particularly on the offensive line.
New York’s inability to pass protect was what helped cause Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury in the first place, so the team likely wouldn’t want to set itself up for that nightmare again by not bringing in as many quality offensive lineman as possible this offseason.
At the very least, though, Gardner’s mind is on fixing the offense first in the hopes it can power the Jets back to the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.
