Led by veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been one of the most surprising teams of the 2023 NFL season so far.
The Bucs began the year with wins in each of their first two games, and then on Sunday, they improved their record to 3-1 after defeating the New Orleans Saints by a final score of 26-9.
After getting the victory over the Saints, Mayfield talked about what has allowed Tampa Bay to be so successful so far this season.
“We set our own standards. This is a very special group. They have a lot of experience, and I’ll tell you what, we’ve got some injuries, we’re going to enjoy this bye week, enjoy 3-1, and come back swinging, ready for a home game after that.” Mayfield said.

On Sunday, New Orleans took an early 3-0 lead, but then Mayfield and the Bucs took the matchup over by outscoring the Saints 26-6 during the rest of the matchup.
Tampa’s veteran quarterback had a solid performance with 246 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and only one interception.
In his four games with the Bucs this season, Mayfield has completed 69.6 percent of his passes for 882 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions, which has resulted in a 101.5 pass rating.
He’s playing some of the best football of his NFL career, and Tampa Bay has just been reaping the benefits of his performances.
A former No. 1 overall draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, Mayfield’s career in the league probably hasn’t gone as he envisioned when he first entered the NFL.
He parted with the Browns after the 2021 campaign, and last season, he spent time as a member of both the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.
This past offseason, Mayfield signed with the Bucs, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions he’s ever made during his football career.
