Every season, some NFL head coaches prove why they’re among the best in the league.
Some take a new team and turn them into contenders, while others elevate their existing squad to new heights.
To honor those achievements, the NFL announced the five finalists for the Coach of the Year Award for the 2023 season:
-
- Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh
- San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan
- Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans
- Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski
- Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell
AP Coach of the Year finalists:

The listed names were easily the best coaches in the NFL this season.
Harbaugh and Shanahan led their respective squads to the top seeds in each conference, Stefanski coached the Browns to the playoffs despite starting five different quarterbacks and enduring a litany of injuries, Ryans turned the Texans into a division champion with a rookie quarterback in his first season and Campbell led the Lions to an NFC North title with one of the best offenses in the NFL.
All five are deserving of the award, and now it’s up to the voters to pick who will take it home on Feb. 8.
Harbaugh and Stefanski have actually already won this award – in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
As a reminder, this is a regular season award that’s already been decided, so how each coach fared in the postseason won’t affect the results.
