There might not be a player in today’s MLB with better bat-to-ball skills than Miami Marlins infielder Luis Arraez.
Say what you want about Arraez’s defense, or game power for that matter.
He is not the perfect player.
However, when it comes to putting the ball in play and putting the bat on the ball, he is as elite as they come.
MLB uploaded a cool video on their social media channels showing some of Arraez’s hitting exercises in the batting cage.
In the video, you can see some of his most obvious traits: balance, hand-eye coordination, contact, and excellent timing.
He puts these skills to good use year in and year out, and they have been good enough to help him win two consecutive batting titles: one in the American League with the Minnesota Twins in 2022, and one last year with the Marlins.

Those who want to excel at one particular aspect of the game should be willing to train.
A lot.
Arraez belongs in that group, spending a considerable amount of time in the cage doing exercises.
It helped him finish the 2023 campaign with a .354 batting average.
It was the best season of his career: he hit .354/.393/.469 with a .861 OPS, 10 home runs, and 30 doubles.
As you can see, he is far from a zero in the power department, which makes his batting average even more impressive.
Since he is still 26, he is right in the prime of his career and should have several more years of top performance.
He is a joy to watch, because he is different than the average great offensive player of his era.
He is a unicorn, you might say, and unicorns are always appreciated.
