The Los Angeles Angels have to be one of the most disappointing teams this offseason.
Their offseason plans were centered around finding a way to re-sign Shohei Ohtani.
Unfortunately, they were unable to do that.
Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now it seems like the Angels are headed for a rebuild.
But, their front office still hopes to stay competitive for the 2024 season.
It appears the Angels have only upgraded one spot so far this offseason.
That has been their bullpen.
According to Sam Blum, all of the Angels’ signings give them a strong bullpen heading into this season.
The Angels have pretty much only added to their bullpen this offseason — as Perry Minasian joked today.
Now, they actually have a pretty good bullpen. On paper at least. It was a huge weakness last season.

But, the problem for the Angels is that a good bullpen will not matter if the rest of their roster is bad.
The Angels have holes all over their lineup.
Losing Ohtani leaves a void in their starting rotation and at designated hitter.
Outside of Mike Trout, the Angels do not have anyone who strikes fear into their opponents.
Also, it does not help that they have to play in the AL West.
The last two World Series champions play in their division.
Having to beat out either the Texas Rangers or Houston Astros for the division title is a long-shot.
The Angels would probably benefit from starting their rebuild this year.
That means trading Trout for a package of young players and prospects.
He is the one asset on their team that has a lot of value.
