There have been a few teams that have made a big splash during the MLB offseason.
One of those teams is the New York Yankees.
After a disappointing 2023 season, the Yankees had plenty of pressure to improve their roster for 2024.
One way they did that was by acquiring one of the best outfielders in baseball.
The Yankees traded for San Diego Padres outfielder Juan Soto.
He is one of the best players in baseball and the Yankees were willing to pay up for the cost to acquire him.
Soto now joins an outfield with 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge.
These two hitters give the Yankees one of the best one-two punches in baseball.
According to Codify, the Yankees are projected to have the best outfield WAR in baseball for 2024.
Their outfield WAR of 14.3 beats out the Atlanta Braves by 1.0.
Projected Outfield WAR, 2024 (via FanGraphs):
Yankees, 14.3
Braves, 13.3
Astros, 10.6
Diamondbacks, 9.4
Rangers, 8.8
Mariners, 8.4
Rays, 8.1
Cardinals, 7.9
Twins, 7.7
Cubs, 7.6
Mets, 7.6
Orioles, 7.6
Blue Jays, 7.5
Red Sox, 7.2
Dodgers, 7.2
Padres, 7.1
Tigers, 7.1
Guardians, 6.7… pic.twitter.com/3NWf2WCZCz— Codify (@CodifyBaseball) January 26, 2024
Outside of Judge and Soto the Yankees also have Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.
All four of those players will contribute to the Yankees’ outfield WAR in 2024.
The only problem the Yankees hope to avoid is the injury bug.
Judge is one player who has had a hard time staying healthy throughout his career.
Last season, he only played in 106 games.
That is his fourth season where he has played less than 150 games (not including the 2020 COVID season).
But, when healthy there may not be a better player in the sport.
The AL East looks like the best division in baseball for 2024.
The Yankees need all of their players to stay healthy for a chance to walk away as division champs.
