The Chicago Bears starred in one of the most bizarre storylines of the 2023 NFL season.
Former defensive coordinator Alan Williams suddenly resigned from his position amid controversy earlier in the season.
HC Matt Eberflus took care of most of the defensive coordinator duties for the remainder of the season, including defensive play-calling.
Now, they’ve finally found a suitable replacement, hiring Eric Washington to be their next defensive coordinator, according to a report by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Washington has already served as assistant head coach and defensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills.
The 54-year-old has spent the past four years with the Bills after being the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
Notably, this will be his second stint in the Windy City, as he spent three years with the Bears as an assistant coach from 2008 to 2010.
There are high expectations for the Bears’ defense entering the upcoming campaign.
They were one of the best units in the league after trading for Montez Sweat, and with Eberflus still in town, this team is expected to be defensive-minded again, regardless of whether they take Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick.
The Bears are coming off quite a disappointing campaign, as they were expected to be a dark horse to come out of the NFC North, yet they couldn’t even make the playoffs.
Now, they hope to revamp their team with a bevy of draft picks.
