Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick remains unemployed after the Atlanta Falcons hired Raheem Morris despite interviewing Belichick multiple times this offseason.
Only two other teams need head coaches now – the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks – but it doesn’t sound as though Belichick is in play for either role.
That leaves Belichick with one to two options, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport: Sit out the 2024 season and/or take a job in television.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he joined us right here in the TV world,” Rapoport said.

Belichick has a little bit of TV experience, too, after he won a Sports Emmy in 2021 for his work as an analyst on NFL Network’s “NFL 100 All-Time Team” series.
He also brings with him 38 years of coaching experience – 29 of which as a head coach – and would undoubtedly be one of the most sought-after voices in sports media.
Other Super Bowl-winning head coaches have taken time off in the past as well before landing new jobs: Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, and former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson all spent a season away from the sidelines before they were hired (or in Payton’s case, traded to) by their current teams.
Belichick is more accomplished than all three of those coaches combined, but is a bit older and also could demand control of the 53-man roster, a responsibility which he held in New England.
Work in TV could also give Belichick a bit more insight into how other teams operate before he potentially attempts a return to the NFL sidelines.
