It might have been in unconventional fashion, but the San Francisco 49ers pulled out a win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship.
While the 49ers were expected to win this game, their success was slated to hinge on the play of Brock Purdy.
Purdy has played well for the 49ers to this point, but fans and analysts were concerned that his lack of experience could be a factor.
He has also been touted as a “game manager” throughout his short career, a narrative he is trying to rewrite.
Mark Schlereth discussed this in a recent segment of The Carton Show, highlighting Purdy’s reaction to this claim.
“If you think I’m a game manager, you don’t watch film,” Schlereth said that Purdy told him.

Calling someone a game manager is often seen as an insult in today’s NFL.
It indicates that they aren’t a great quarterback, that they are nothing more than a placeholder that a team is waiting to replace.
While this might be the case for some teams, it appears that the 49ers are confident in Purdy and his ability to be so much more than that.
Armed with several elite pass-catchers, Purdy seems to have every tool at his disposal to be a great NFL quarterback.
He might have been a seventh-round draft pick in 2022, someone that every team passed on, but if he can bring the 49ers a Super Bowl trophy, that narrative will be rewritten.
Does Purdy have one more win in him to close out the season?
