Last week, the Milwaukee Brewers signed first baseman Rhys Hoskins to a two-year, $34 million contract.
It was a major move for a franchise that had been relatively quiet on the player acquisition front.
Hoskins represents an important injection of power for the lineup and, if he stays healthy, he has a shot at hitting about 60 home runs for Milwaukee in the duration of his contract.
The deal also has a player opt-out after the 2024 season and a mutual option for the 2026 campaign.
Brewers insider Adam McCalvy had a chat with Hoskins about his new team.
He had some interesting things to say.
“Takeaways from a chat with Rhys Hoskins: – Confident he’ll be full go at the start of camp after missing last year w/ ACL injury – Had Brewers on his list from the start of FA. ‘Milwaukee was always a great paper fit.’ – Motivation is high. ‘I’m pretty bored as a competitor,’” McCalvy tweeted.

Hoskins badly injured his knee in a spring training game last season and missed the whole year with his previous team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Still, since the injury occurred when the season hadn’t started yet, he has had almost a year to fully recover.
He expects to enter spring training 2024 with no restrictions with the Brewers.
He is happy to join the Brewers, a forward-thinking organization who has needed a powerful first baseman for years.
That’s why he says he is a great paper fit for the team, and vice versa: his power output will be a welcome addition to the lineup.
Hoskins has 148 career homers and a .846 OPS, good numbers for the middle of the Brewers order.
