The Patrick Mahomes effect is real, and the NFL is well aware of it.
Just one week after setting a record for the most-watched AFC Divisional Game ever, the Kansas City Chiefs did it again.
As reported by Ari Meirov, the AFC Championship Game between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens drew a whopping 55.5 million viewers, the most for an AFC Championship ever.

That’s easy to believe, as Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are two of the most popular players in the game, and the highly-anticipated matchup was supposed to give us an instant classic.
On top of that, the NFC Championship Game between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers drew even more viewers, a whopping 56.9 million — the most at this stage since 2012.
The NFL continues to expand as a global brand, reaching more and more corners of the Earth as the years go by.
And even though some other major sports leagues are struggling to keep the ratings and fan interest high, football continues to be king in America.
Needless to say, the table is now set for an epic rematch between the San Franciso 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, and while there’s just a handful of players who were on the field for that game four years ago, you better believe every single person in that locker room will be locked in to try and get the win.
