The Seattle Seahawks are one of only two remaining teams in the NFL that still need to hire a head coach before the 2024 season.
They moved long-time head coach Pete Carroll to an advisory role in the front office and interviewed a number of candidates for the role this year.
But one of the biggest names they had to wait to talk to was Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said is a leading candidate to take the job because of how he interviewed.
“He is young, he is bright. Sort of the ‘defensive Sean McVay’ is how he was described to me,” Rapoport said. “The fact that Seattle was willing to wait until after the Super Bowl to talk to him … that makes me think he’s a really, really strong candidate in Seattle.”

Macdonald coached the No. 1 scoring defense in the NFL this year that helped the Ravens ascend to the top of the AFC as the conference’s No. 1 seed.
The Ravens allowed just three offensive points to the Houston Texans in the wild card round before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game, though the defense limited Patrick Mahomes to only 17 points.
Macdonald is also in contention for the other head coaching gig with the Washington Commanders and could have his choice between a Seahawks team who made the playoffs a year ago and a Commanders team looking at a rebuild with a first-time general manager and the No. 2 pick in the draft.
