The Kansas City Royals have had a very solid offseason.
People had grown accustomed to a passive team that didn’t really pursue the top, or even the middle tier of free agents in recent seasons.
However, a new general manager, J.J. Picollo, has made it clear he wants to compete, and even though the Royals started the offseason as probably the worst team in the AL Central, he knew he had to start somewhere.
Kansas City, led by Picollo, went to work and added Hunter Renfroe to their lineup, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha to their rotation, and Will Smith, Chris Stratton, and Nick Anderson to their bullpen.
On Tuesday, they announced another important move.
“We have signed INF Adam Frazier to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2025. Welcome to Kansas City, Adam!” they tweeted.

Frazier can play a number of positions in the infield and the outfield, which makes him a perfect utilityman on paper.
Ideally, however, he will fight for playing time at second and third base with Michael Massey and Maikel Garcia, respectively.
In any case, Frazier is expected to log considerable playing time with the Royals, especially if he performs.
Frazier is not a star, but he is a perfectly adequate league-average bat with some defensive versatility and those are always useful.
Over his career, he has hit a solid, if unspectacular .269/.331/.393 with a .724 OPS.
After all these additions, the Royals are looking better than the Chicago White Sox on paper and could even challenge for third place in the AL Central.
That’s certainly a start.
