The 2023-24 MLB offseason is still very much alive, even though spring training is just a couple of weeks away.
Blake Snell, the winner of two Cy Young awards including the National League one in 2023, is still available; as is one of the best hitters of the free-agent class: Cody Bellinger.
Speaking of Bellinger, he has been linked to a number of franchises in the never-ending rumor factory that is the offseason.
However, no one has met his asking price, and a signing could potentially come even after spring training starts.
For the Chicago Cubs, however, Bellinger makes too much sense to pass on.
According to what industry sources told MLB insider Jon Morosi, Chicago is Bellinger’s most likely destination.
“The Cubs are the most likely landing spot for Cody Bellinger, multiple people in the baseball industry told me this week, although there is no indication that Bellinger is close to choosing a team,” Morosi tweeted.

While no deal is close at this point, a reunion makes sense.
After two rough seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021 and 2022, the Cubs took a chance on Bellinger on a short-term deal hoping he could rebound because they trusted in his talent.
And rebound he did: he slashed .307/.356/.525 with 29 doubles, 26 home runs, 97 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and a .881 OPS.
He did all that by contributing excellent defense in center field, too.
The Cubs have brought in Michael Busch and kept most of their offensive core in place: Seiya Suzuki, Christopher Morel, Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, and more.
They do need another top hitter, and Bellinger qualifies.
