For years, Baltimore Orioles fans have clamored for the Angelos family (former owner Peter and now his son John), who own the team, to sell it to someone who is more willing to invest and spend on free agents and roster improvements in general.
Their dreams are apparently close to coming true.
On Tuesday, it was reported that John Angelos has agreed to sell the Orioles to David Rubenstein and Mike Arougheti, two private equity billionaires.
Orioles fans reacted positively to the development.
Slowly, but surely, more details about the move have appeared, and one of them is sure to captivate old school O’s fans.
“Cal Ripken Jr. is reportedly part of the Orioles’ new ownership group, per @afkostka,” FOX Sports: MLB tweeted.

From 1981 to 2001, Ripken was a true star and an icon for the entire city of Baltimore.
He played his whole career with the O’s and broke one of baseball’s most sacred records: most consecutive games played.
He has been a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame since 2007.
Now, he will be a minority owner of the franchise.
Fans hope that the new owners can inject some cash into a roster that is on the verge of winning something big but might be missing a star pitcher.
They led the American League with 101 wins in 2023, but fell in the first round of the playoffs in part because they lacked a pitcher or two in the rotation and bullpen.
It’s time for a new era in Baltimore, and fans can’t believe their luck.
