The Chicago Bears were one of the worst teams in the NFL this season, despite having some hope coming into the year.
While they seemed like a fun, young team at times, they were ultimately unable to turn that energy into palpable and consistent performances.
Despite not having a lot of success in the win column, the Bears do have a few young pieces that can give them hope for their future.
Ron Rivera recently appeared on ESPN 1000 radio, where he talked about the state of the team, particularly discussing Montez Sweat.
Rivera was Sweat’s head coach in Washington and has a great understanding of the player he is.
He said that Sweat is “just scratching the surface of who he is.”

Sweat was selected with a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
He was slated to be a one-two punch with Chase Young on the Commanders’ defensive line but with Young’s injury history, he was often left alone.
After a few years in Washington, he was traded to the Bears in October of 2023.
He played well for the team in the nine games he was a part of, giving the Bears another piece to grow and move forward with.
The Bears seem committed to getting a lot better in 2024, and with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft in hand, they have the capital and tools to start to get that done.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the pick, if they use it on a player like Caleb Williams or stick with Justin Fields.
