The 2023 season didn’t go as planned for the Cincinnati Bengals.
After signing Joe Burrow to a massive contract extension, Burrow got injured, which put their season on a downward trajectory from the get-go.
There were times throughout the year when the team looked like they could make a push without him, but they ended up fizzling out.
Now that the Bengals are in the offseason, they’ll have several key roster decisions to make.
One of which, is what to do about Tee Higgins, who is a free agent.
Higgins has been a great target for Burrow throughout his career thus far, but a sad reality in the NFL is that teams can’t pay everyone.
Craig Carton recently declared that “Tee Higgins will not be a Cincinnati Bengal,” an indication of how the team will move forward.

Signing Burrow to a massive deal makes things more complicated for the Bengals’ future.
Yes, they want to have money to retain their top players, but if Higgins doesn’t fall into that window, he could easily walk in free agency.
If a team sees him for the value he provided the Bengals, he could get a contract that is reflective of a top-24 receiver.
The Bengals likely cannot afford that kind of deal, especially since Ja’Marr Chase will be up for an extension soon.
Unfortunately for Higgins, the NFL is a business, and with businesses, come hard decisions.
Assuming the Bengals move on from him, it will be interesting to see where the talented young receiver ends up.
