The Kansas City Chiefs needed Travis Kelce to step up big time this season.
He had a down year by his standards, but he responded when it mattered the most, more often than not.
As usual, he’s become one of the most unstoppable players in the playoffs, and his connection with Patrick Mahomes at this point in the season should already be considered the greatest — or one of the greatest — in the history of the game.
But what has made him such an impactful receiver?
According to legendary defender Luke Kuechly, it’s all about his ability to freelance and go off-script.
Talking to Kay Adams on her Up & Adams Show, the former Carolina Panther explained how you need to stay attached to Kelce and never take your eyes off of him.
“You have to keep your eyes on Travis. You can’t take your eyes off of him and put them on Mahomes,” Kuechly said.
How do you stop Travis Kelce?
This is the best answer I have ever heard.

He explained that once defenders think it’s a standard route and shift their attention back to Mahomes, Kelce has the freedom and ability to just roam around and get himself open, which is why Mahomes finds him with so much ease.
He also hinted at the fact that Kelce has a tell with his eyes, so you need to keep an eye on his face to see when he’s tracking the football.
Then again, as easy as this might sound, Kuechly also added that he’s Travis Kelce for a reason, and it’s never easy to contain him.
The Niners will have their hands full with the future Hall of Famer, but they now have a big piece of advice from one of the best to ever do it.
