The Washington Commanders are making the rounds right now, but not for the best reasons.
Josh Harris’ team just hired Dan Quinn as their new head coach, and it seems like some people were expecting them to go in a different direction.
Notably, that includes ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith (Via Awful Announcing).
Talking on First Take, the controversial pundit claimed that he wasn’t excited about this hire at all.
“Last time we saw him was in a playoff game where the Dallas Cowboys defense looked horrific. Am I excited about this hire for the nation’s capital? No,” Smith said.

Smith said that it’s not like he doesn’t think that Quinn can coach or deserves to be a head coach.
However, he blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl, and the last time we saw him, his Dallas Cowboys defense got absolutely crushed in the playoffs.
He doesn’t think this moved the needle for the Commanders as a contender within the same division, nor that it was an exciting hire for this franchise at all.
And while he did acknowledge that the Dallas Cowboys defense improved every year under him, he believes it would’ve been better for him to try and make amends and fix what didn’t work for them after that tough loss in the Wild Card game vs. the Green Bay Packers.
At the end of the day, the Commanders took plenty of time to make a decision, and they had no shortage of candidates, so they must’ve liked his vision for the future of this organization.
Now, he’ll have to prove a lot of people wrong, and that’ll be easier said than done.
