The New England Patriots already had a tall task coming into this season as arguably the worst team in the potentially best division in the NFL, as Bill Belichick has to contend with the likes of the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the schedule was brutal to start the 2023 NFL season for the Patriots, as they had to face the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, followed by the Dolphins, Jets, and Dallas Cowboys.
After the first four games of the 2023 campaign, Belichick and company are sitting at 1-3 and could be headed for a brutal stretch for the rest of the season.
Belichick was already possibly on the hot seat to start the season, with longtime owner Robert Kraft potentially looking at a future without the legendary head coach, who seems determined to become the winningest coach in NFL history by passing Don Shula at some point.
With the Patriots getting destroyed by the Cowboys in Week 4, 38-3, former NFL star Shannon Sharpe went in on Belichick and how this should start to tarnish his legacy, via ESPN’s “First Take.”

Over the course of their Super Bowl titles together, there has been a lot of debate about who deserved more credit for the Patriots being successful: Belichick or Tom Brady.
As Sharpe points out, maybe it was Brady all along who deserved the credit for New England winning six titles and going down as one of the best dynasties in professional sports.
This is a debate that will likely continue to brew if Belichick can’t turn things around for the Patriots and potentially be on his way out during or after the season.
