San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is headed to his first-ever Super Bowl in only his second season in the NFL.
The narrative of the young quarterback continues to shift from quality player to game manager, but through it all, Purdy navigated a talented 49ers squad through the tumultuous NFC playoffs and is one win away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
While former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf said he isn’t completely convinced the 49ers can beat the Kansas City Chiefs after their past two performances, Leaf told NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” that Purdy proved he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL already.
“He’s clearly shown he’s in a very elite group of quarterbacks in this league with what he’s been able to do so early in his career,” Leaf said.

Purdy has the benefit of playing in one of the most quarterback-friendly offenses run by head coach Kyle Shanahan with an incredibly talented collection of skill-position players that includes running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, and wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
But it’s his ability in and around the pocket that’s pushed the 49ers into the Super Bowl after San Francisco was knocked back a few times in the divisional round against the Green Bay Packers and in the NFC title game against the Detroit Lions.
Purdy will get another chance to showcase his skillset in the biggest game of his career against perhaps the best defense he’s faced in the postseason.
