The Baltimore Ravens finished with the best defense in the NFL this past season thanks to defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, but he left to become the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
Macdonald already took one Ravens assistant with him to Seattle, but now another could join the Miami Dolphins, who are looking for a new defensive coordinator after Vic Fangio left to join the Philadelphia Eagles.
Former NFL player and current Ravens defensive line coach Anthony Weaver is the frontrunner to land the job, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.
Emerging as #Dolphins frontrunner and expected to ultimately land defensive coordinator job: #Ravens assistant head coach-defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, per league sources @KPRC2 Interviewed for head coaching jobs with #Commanders #Falcons

Weaver spent the past three years on John Harbaugh’s staff after five years with the Houston Texans as an assistant coach and stints with the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets.
He previously played seven seasons in the NFL with the Ravens and Texans after he was a second round pick out of Notre Dame in 2002.
The Dolphins need defensive help in 2024 after the team floundered at the end of this past season, and Weaver’s coached one of the best overall defensive line units in the league with the Ravens.
Weaver going to Miami could also lead to the recruitment of free agents the Dolphins could use next year, such as Pro Bowl defensive tackle Justin Madubuike.
So while Weaver could be a good hire, he could also be another one-and-done assistant coach after he interviewed with the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons for their opening head coaching jobs.
For now, though, the Dolphins need a defensive coordinator and Weaver would be the best option available.
