Heading into a difficult matchup against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, few believed quarterback Zach Wilson and the New York Jets stood much of a chance.
But to the credit of Wilson and the Jets, they hung in there against the Chiefs on Sunday, and to the disbelief of some who were watching at home, New York almost pulled off the upset.
Unfortunately, the Jets fell to Kansas City by a final score of 23-20, but many came away from the contest impressed by the performance of New York’s young quarterback, including NFL Media’s Rich Eisen, who shared his thoughts on his show on Monday.
“This is actually what we wanted to see. An actual concept of playing quarterback in the manner in which the offense is calling for it, and, yeah, comfortable enough to make some throws with different arm angles and different places to put it on your receiver’s body because the defense is dictating it.”

Eisen was one of many who were pleasantly surprised by the performance from Wilson against the Chiefs on Sunday.
In the loss, the third-year Jets quarterback completed 71 percent of his passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
It was easily the best performance of Wilson’s NFL career, and now New York fans are just hoping that this won’t be a one-time occurrence, and instead, it will become a normal game from the young signal-caller.
Despite the excitement about Wilson, the loss also leaves the Jets with a disappointing 1-3 record after their first four games of the 2023 season.
New York has a lot of work to do if they want to re-insert themselves into the AFC playoff picture at some point this season.
If the Jets have any hope for a postseason berth this year, they’re going to need Wilson to continue playing like he did on Sunday against Kansas City.
