The Dallas Cowboys’ defense was a large reason why they finished the 2023 NFL season as the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
However, their vaunted defense got torn to shreds in the Wild Card round against the Green Bay Packers, leaving some to wonder how it will bounce back in 2024.
Despite the meltdown in the playoffs, Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn got multiple interviews for head coaching positions.
Quinn was a popular target last hiring cycle, but with so many enticing options this year it appears he made the correct decision to wait.
Quinn was ultimately offered the Washington Commanders head coaching job, leaving the Cowboys to search for his replacement.
The team already seems to have someone in mind as they are set to meet with former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“Former Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer, who last worked in the NFL in 2021, is meeting with the Cowboys about their defensive coordinator job, per league sources,” Schefter reported.

Zimmer served as the Vikings’ head coach for eight seasons before being let go.
Since then, Zimmer worked as a consultant for Jackson State and now finds himself on the cusp of a return to the NFL.
During his time in the league as the Minnesota head coach, Zimmer was known for his stingy defensive units and he seems like an adequate replacement for Quinn.
His ties to the franchise also make him more attractive for team owner Jerry Jones, so he’s likely the favorite to land the job.
