The Kansas City Chiefs might have beaten the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football, but it was a win shrouded in controversy.
There was a late holding call against Sauce Gardner, a play that helped the Chiefs complete their final drive.
The officiating has been questioned by many pundits and former players, including Richard Sherman.
In a recent segment of “Undisputed,” Sherman said, “It doesn’t seem like [the referee] threw [the flag] because of the play, he threw that because it was a turnover.”

Sherman also pointed out a potential holding penalty on the Chiefs that was not called, allowing Patrick Mahomes to scramble for a massive first down.
He is not the only person to question the referee’s motives, as this has been a major topic of discussion after the game.
The Chiefs were the subject of another controversial penalty during last year’s Super Bowl.
There was a similar play called against the Philadelphia Eagles which allowed the Chiefs to kick the game-winning field goal.
Whether this is coincidence or if there is merit to Sherman’s comments remains to be seen.
With the amount of conversation about the current state of referees, the league could intervene if this trend continues.
Sports betting is at an all-time high, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
The public perception of poor referee judgment is also at an all-time high, especially when money is involved.
